Bark and the Barn next door

The Barn
Ash Tree Bark

I enjoy going for walks out past the barn, and this time of year it's really neat to see so much growing. There are fields on all sides of our place, and the barn next door is vacant except for the pigeons which are many.

I had a pigeon I named Victor. I found him when he couldn't fly, and he was pretty friendly I thought. Mr. Nelson ate him. (The Cat) and while I felt bad, I did enjoy him while he was around and that's not what I can say for most pigeons. I was particularly interested in using a Jess on him to keep him tied up.

I went to hear a retired Veterinarian who worked for years and years with birds of prey. He had all kinds of stories, and I loved seeing the pictures of the different birds he had saved. One I remember, was a Golden Eagle. She had been found starving to death because she could not hunt. She had one eye that had been gorged and healed. She was taken to a human ophthalmologist, who discovered that though the bad eye had long since healed it had caused an infection to take over the other eye so that she could not see at all. The Golden Eagle depends on sight to be able to spot it's food. After giving it the same drug that is proscribed for humans with the same condition, she got better enough that they were able to surgically remove the rest of the dead eye and return her to the wilds where she once again thrived. Music Lessons

I give music lessons. I have two students, Amy 9, and Tim 11. To be more specific, we play guitars together. I go to their house every couple of weeks and we do a lesson for one of them, then sometimes, we all just play together and sing for the next one. It's a lot of fun! I went to the Library yesterday and renewed my Library card. I found a book that we barrowed a long time ago and checked it out again. It really has some neat stuff in it, and I want to show it to Tim and Amy next time. It's called The Everything Guitar Book

I learned to play the guitar without lessons, but I have to admit, I was spoiled. I sure didn't learn on my own! We had quite a large group of youngsters in a church group that all learned at once, and aside from a couple of very patient examples, we all considered ourselves learning on our own. I can remember nine beginning guitarist playing for special music... Wow. Or was it seven beginners and two pros? I can't quite remember. That was 6 years ago.

If you are interested in playing the guitar, there is a lot of good stuff you can find on the internet that is free, and easy to use. Drop me a comment if you have a couple of questions and whatever you do have fun! I always tell my students, if they don't practice, they won't sound better, but they should practice because they want to and they should have fun at it because nobody is trying to make them sound better if they don't want to. It works half the time. I just shrug it off when they don't practice much because I know they have other things they are interested it. There is nothing worse then having to do something because someone else wants you to, and not because you want to. By the way, I consider these kids advanced.

See ya,
Mary
